REMEMBERED: Peter Meyer, 76, the former principal of Harold Cressy High School, passed away on Saturday, 25 July 2015.
Meyer served as principal of the school. He was also the long-serving secretary of the Western Province Senior Schools Sports Union.
He was a graduate of UCT, taught briefly at Alexander Sinton High before moving on to teach at Harold Cressy High in Roeland Street, Cape Town under the then principal Edgar Maurice.
Peter Meyer is standing on the right.
Phillip Tobias, left, was a powerful speaker to students and teachers alike at the sectional athletics meetings during the 1970s and 1980s.
Words such as “cosmetic changes, sell outs, commodities and window dressing” marked each and every speech back then during sports isolation under apartheid, punctuated by the only miscellaneous reprimand on the day: “The boy with his feet dangling from the ledge, please take your seat.”
